What will Justin look like 50 years from now?
The answer will belong to a generation of Justin residents who haven’t even been born yet.
On Thursday, September 3, the City of Justin dedicated a time capsule at the city’s new Fire Station No. 2, located at 11042 FM 407 near Timberbrook Parkway. The capsule was created to preserve a snapshot of the community as it exists in 2026 — giving future residents a chance to see what life in Justin was like half a century earlier.
A Snapshot of Justin Today
The capsule contains more than just historical documents. It represents the people, places and everyday life of the community.
Items planned for inclusion include:
- Photographs
- Historical records
- Demographic information
- City documents
- Messages from residents and community leaders
- Student artwork
- Local publications
- Other artifacts representing Justin in 2026
In other words, the capsule isn’t simply about preserving Justin’s buildings or government records. It’s about preserving Justin’s people and community.
From Justin’s Past to Its Future
Mayor James Clark, who has a strong interest in collecting and preserving Justin history, said discoveries from the city’s past helped inspire the project.
Old photographs and artifacts give today’s residents a glimpse into the Justin of previous generations. The hope is that this time capsule will give future residents that same feeling when they look back at 2026.
By then, today’s familiar landmarks may be gone or transformed. New neighborhoods may fill areas that are still open today, and businesses, roads and the landscape itself may look completely different.
But somewhere inside Fire Station No. 2 will be evidence of the people who lived here during this chapter of Justin’s story.
Open in 2076
The time capsule is scheduled to remain sealed until July 4, 2076 — giving Justin a 50-year time capsule of its own history.
Imagine being there when it’s opened.
A child who submitted artwork in 2026 could be a grandparent. Today’s local businesses may be remembered only through photographs. And the things that seem completely ordinary to us may be some of the most fascinating discoveries for the people of 2076.
That’s the fun of a time capsule: we don’t know what will seem important 50 years from now.
What we do know is that Justin is growing and changing quickly, and this capsule gives future generations a chance to see what the community looked like — and who helped shape it — along the way.
As Mayor Clark noted, creating a time capsule is a community effort.
And now, a little piece of Justin in 2026 is officially part of Justin’s history.
